OmiFluo™ BOSHY-LD Yellow is a next-generation, boron-chelated fluorescent probe specifically designed for high-contrast lipid droplet (LD) imaging in live cells. Built on a rigid BOSHY (boron-chelated salicylhydrazone) scaffold, this dye combines BODIPY-compatible optical properties with dual-state emissive performance, enabling robust fluorescence in both solution and aggregated cellular environments.
Key Features
-
Bright green–yellow emission with a large Stokes shift, minimizing self-absorption and background interference
-
High fluorescence quantum yield in solution and solid/aggregated states
-
Excellent lipid droplet specificity, driven by high lipophilicity and neutral-lipid affinity
-
Dual-state emission (DSE) behavior, avoiding aggregation-caused quenching common in conventional dyes
-
High photostability and low cytotoxicity, suitable for long-term live-cell imaging
Optical Properties
-
Excitation: 488 nm (argon laser compatible)
-
Emission: 520–620 nm (maximum ~590–610 nm, yellow channel)
These spectral characteristics allow direct substitution for commonly used green-channel LD dyes, including BODIPY-based probes, without requiring changes to standard confocal microscope settings.
Applications
-
Live-cell and fixed-cell lipid droplet visualization
-
Studies of lipid metabolism, storage, and dynamics
-
Imaging of lipid-associated metabolic disorders (e.g., fatty liver disease)
-
Multicolor fluorescence imaging combined with nuclear or mitochondrial stains
Advantages over Conventional LD Dyes
Unlike classical planar fluorophores, OmiFluo™ BOSHY-LD Yellow maintains strong fluorescence under high local concentrations within lipid droplets, ensuring sharp droplet boundaries, high signal-to-noise ratios, and reliable colocalization with commercial LD markers.
